Where the Dust Learned My Name is the first charcoal work in my collection. The piece grew out of an extended study of a vintage photograph I revisited over several months, including during a long-anticipated trip to Tennessee. It was brought fully into execution one year later, in January 2026.
Charcoal was a new medium for me at the time, and the process revealed an unexpected clarity between intention and result. Working in charcoal allowed the image to remain grounded in gesture and atmosphere, opening new conceptual directions and expanding the way I approach both subject and material.
